Committee Begins Probe into Tripureshwor Bus Driver’s Death

Committee to Investigate Tripureshwor Bus Driver’s Death and Events Leading Up to Incident

A committee has started investigating the death of public bus driver Arjun Dong Tamang in Tripureshwor after a meeting on Friday.

The meeting, led by Rajiv Pokharel, director general of the Department of Transport Management, discussed the case details and the investigation steps to be taken.

The committee plans to first review investigation reports from agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It will also seek recommendations from relevant authorities to adopt these reports.

As part of the investigation, the committee will collect and analyze evidence related to the Tripureshwor incident, looking into the events leading to Tamang’s death, the sequence of actions, and the authorities’ responses.

Additionally, the committee intends to invite insurance company representatives to its next meeting to discuss potential relief and compensation for those affected by the incident.

Consultations will also include representatives from transport entrepreneurs and workers’ unions for suggestions on preventing similar incidents.

Tamang died from severe burns after an incident with a Riddhi Siddhi Yatayat bus on September 21. Police reported that a dispute between the driver and traffic police over a traffic fine occurred before the incident.

This incident has sparked demands from transport entrepreneurs and worker organizations for a fair investigation and compensation for Tamang’s family.

Police have set up a separate committee to investigate, while the Kathmandu District Administration Office has formed its own committee, including representatives from relevant agencies and the transport sector.

The new committee will review the evidence and investigation reports presented to it and make recommendations based on its findings.

Officials have stated that the investigation will focus on the incident’s circumstances and explore ways to enhance public transport management and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
