The CPN-UML plans to convene a national workers’ gathering in Kathmandu in November as it continues organizational work across its various levels.
The Standing Committee reached the decision at its meeting on Thursday, following the completion of gatherings in the party’s lower-level units. UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet said the national gathering would take place during the first week of Mangsir.
Provincial and district office-bearers, rural and municipal chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, and elected representatives from federal, provincial and local levels will attend.
The gathering is expected to give party leaders and representatives from across the country an opportunity to discuss organizational issues and the party’s future work.
The Standing Committee also set 12 December for ward-level conventions and 19 December for local-level conventions.
Basnet said provincial-level gatherings would be held once the ward and local conventions were completed.
The decisions form part of the UML’s continuing efforts to reinforce its organizational structure following activities at lower levels of the party.
Bhandari Sworn In as Senior Leader
Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended Thursday’s Standing Committee meeting for the first time since being nominated as a senior leader of the UML.

The Standing Committee is due to resume its meeting on Friday, when the party is expected to continue discussions on its organizational and political agenda.
