The President’s Office has received three ordinances recommended by the government for issuance.
According to Krishna Bahadur Shahi, spokesperson for the President’s Office, the ordinances were delivered around 5 pm on Thursday but have not yet been formally submitted to President Ram Chandra Paudel.
During its meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet recommended the president issue these ordinances, which aim to amend existing laws related to land, forests, and disaster management.
Disaster Ordinance Tackles Post-Flood Issues
The disaster management ordinance was proposed following the Bhotekoshi floods and other related emergencies.
A significant part of this ordinance addresses missing persons during disasters. Under current laws, individuals can be declared dead after 12 years if missing. The proposed change seeks to reduce this period to 45 days for cases involving disasters.
This amendment is designed to alleviate legal and administrative challenges faced by families of those unaccounted for after significant disasters.
Land Ordinance Offers Support to Landless Communities
The land ordinance includes provisions intended to allocate land to landless Dalits, squatters, and unregulated settlers.
These proposed changes are part of the government’s initiative to resolve historical land issues and establish legal recognition for eligible landless populations.
Additionally, the third ordinance focuses on amending laws related to forests.
The provisions in these three ordinances will come into effect once they are formally issued by the president.
The President’s Office confirmed receipt of the ordinances, which await formal presentation to President Paudel for the next
