APF Additional Inspector General Banshiraj Dahal Removed Amid Allegations of Security Information Leak
The government has terminated Armed Police Force (APF) Additional Inspector General Banshiraj Dahal’s service following allegations of misconduct and the disclosure of sensitive security information.
Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle said Dahal was dismissed through departmental action, with his service ending this Friday.
Dahal had been suspended from duty on October 5, after the APF recommended disciplinary measures over alleged misconduct and the leakage of confidential information.
Inquiry into Alleged Security Information Leak
A Home Ministry spokesperson said the ministry had assigned an inquiry officer to investigate the allegations and prepare a report.
The inquiry was launched to determine whether Dahal had breached the code of conduct applicable to security personnel.
It is examining the details of his conduct, including his visit to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku while former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana was in police custody.
Investigators are also looking into Dahal’s alleged connections with Inam Sapkota and whether he disclosed sensitive or confidential information. The ministry has not specified what information Dahal is alleged to have shared.
The Home Ministry spokesperson said the ministry is reviewing breaches of official conduct by its employees, including information leaks and other actions that could threaten peace and security.
Dahal’s dismissal came after a departmental inquiry into complaints and allegations of misconduct and security leaks. The action ends the service of the APF’s Additional Inspector General of Police.
The allegations behind the investigation and departmental inquiry are separate from the criminal investigations into the cases filed against Dahal. His dismissal through departmental action does not establish that he is guilty of any alleged crime.
