
A severe flood in the Budhi Gandaki area of northern Nepal has resulted in 10 people missing and the destruction of six bridges, along with nearly 35 homes in Gorkha district, according to recent reports.
The flood struck early Sunday morning, causing significant damage to local communities and infrastructure. Two motorable bridges and four suspension bridges were swept away, disrupting transportation and connectivity between various neighborhoods.
Netra Prasad Sharma, the assistant chief district officer of Gorkha, informed the National News Agency (RSS) that multiple bridges in the district were affected.
Six Bridges Destroyed by Floodwaters
Bridges were damaged in several locations, including Arughat, Tripurasundari, and Soti-Manbu. A Bailey bridge connecting wards 1 and 3 of Dharche Rural Municipality was reported missing.
Footbridges linking Machhikhola to Karauja, Thadobharyang to Jagat, and Ghattekhola to Philim were also destroyed.
The loss of these bridges presents serious transportation issues for residents who rely on them for access to nearby communities and essential services.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the infrastructure damage in the affected areas.
Nearly 35 Homes Destroyed in Chumnubri
The flood also caused significant destruction in residential areas of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3.
Initial reports indicate that nearly 35 homes in Painyu and Bagar were swept away by the flood. Other settlements, including Jagat, Salleri, Dovan, and Ghattekhola, also suffered damage.
The destruction of homes raises concerns about the safety and needs of affected residents. Assessments of displacement and the number of families requiring assistance are ongoing.
Ten People Reported Missing
Ten individuals have been reported missing following this disaster, according to an initial report from RSS.
