Indian YouTuber Jason Samuel Vijayakumar has been arrested regarding the death of financial influencer V Harish. He faces allegations of online harassment, intimidation, and attempted extortion, according to police.
This arrest comes after an investigation into Harish’s death. The 27 year old content creator from Puducherry ran the popular YouTube channel Finance with Harish.
Police stated that the investigation involved witness testimonies and supporting evidence. Samuel, 30, is accused of posting defamatory content about Harish and attempting to extort money from him.
These allegations have not yet been proven in court, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Family Claims Online Harassment
Harish had gained a following of around 1.3 million by sharing content on personal finance and investments.
He died by suicide on October 20 at a rented home in Kanathur, near Chennai. His father, J Vinayagam, filed a police complaint requesting an investigation into alleged cyberbullying and harassment.
The complaint alleges that Harish suffered online attacks and threats due to a public dispute over his qualifications to offer financial advice.
His father has urged investigators to preserve digital evidence, examine online posts and videos, and review a video Harish recorded before his death.
Police are looking into the circumstances surrounding the allegations and the events leading up to Harish’s death.
Dispute Over Financial Advice
The conflict reportedly intensified after Samuel questioned Harish’s credibility in providing investment services.
Samuel has previously denied the harassment claims in a social media post, stating his criticism focused on Harish’s qualifications and whether he was authorized to give financial advice.
The dispute also concerned Harish’s registration with India’s Securities and Exchange Board of India SEBI and the Association of Mutual Funds in India AMFI.
Reports indicate that Harish’s social media accounts were blocked prior to his death, adding to the controversy.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Kanathur police have filed a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, related to abetment of suicide. Following Samuel’s arrest, police stated he would be presented before a judicial magistrate, and they would seek his custody.
Investigators are reviewing the complaint, witness statements, and digital evidence to clarify the events and assess the validity of the allegations.
This case has reignited discussions about cyberbullying, online conflicts, and the responsibilities of social media influencers when making public accusations.
While Samuel’s allegations are part of the ongoing investigation, determining the circumstances of Harish’s death and any potential criminal liability will require a thorough legal process. Authorities continue to work to uncover the facts surrounding this case.
