Kathmandu Police have arrested 75 individuals in a special operation aimed at reducing criminal activity in public spaces, crowded areas, public transport, and government buildings.
According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, these arrests were part of a 24 hour sweep designed to curb inappropriate behavior, theft, robbery, harassment, and hooliganism.
75 Individuals Arrested in Security Operation
The operation resulted in the arrest of 60 males, 14 females, and one additional person as police deployed special teams to busy public locations.
This initiative targeted anyone suspected of causing disturbances through assault, inappropriate behavior, harassment, theft, robbery, or acting as an intermediary.
Police specifically focused on incidents occurring in public transport and near government buildings.
12 Individuals with Outstanding Cases Arrested
Eight individuals who had been convicted and sentenced were apprehended, along with four others who had been evading investigation.
The arrests aimed to locate wanted individuals linked to ongoing cases, according to the Kathmandu District Police Range.
Police Aim to Enhance Public Safety
“This operation was conducted to maintain peace and order and deter criminal activity,” stated Dan Bahadur Thapa, Spokesperson for the District Police Range and Superintendent of Police.
Police are monitoring public areas and transport to ensure there is no harassment, disturbance, theft, robbery, or other issues affecting users of public services.
This operation is intended to create a safer environment for local residents and visitors, allowing them to carry out their daily activities without fear. Investigations into the cases have also begun.
