Nepal’s authorities are advised to take action against three government employees accused of engaging in political party activities.
Complaints were filed with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and forwarded to the Office of the Prime Minister and relevant ministries for potential legal action, according to Kavindra Burlakoti, a member of the RSP secretariat.
The three individuals are reportedly located in Kathmandu, but their identities and workplaces remain undisclosed.
Complaints Submitted to Authorities
The complaints address concerns about individuals participating in political roles.
“We have submitted these complaints to the appropriate government agencies,” Burlakoti stated in a social media update.
This highlights the issue of government employees participating in politics.
Upholding Political Neutrality in Public Service
Nepal enforces strict guidelines regarding political neutrality and professionalism among government employees. Public servants have specific rules governing their political activities based on their service category.
These recent complaints underscore the need to investigate whether these individuals have violated any laws or regulations by holding political positions.
Any disciplinary or legal actions will be determined by the relevant authorities.
Previous Complaints Have Occurred
“We have received similar complaints before. We assess each case based on its circumstances,” Burlakoti explained.
In one instance, an employee from a commercial bank was involved with the RSP. After a complaint, they were asked to choose between their political role and their job, ultimately opting to pursue politics.
“We believe government employees should not engage in political party roles,” he added.
Next Steps
The complaints are now with the Prime Minister’s Office and relevant ministries, which will investigate whether any laws or regulations have been violated.
The identities of the individuals, their workplaces, and their political roles remain undisclosed.
This recommendation does not imply any legal violations. Actions will depend on the findings of the relevant authorities.
This situation emphasizes the importance of political neutrality, accountability in the public sector, and the separation of government service from political parties in Nepal.
