CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has urged party leaders and members to prepare for a new political movement, emphasizing that Nepal is at a critical point.
“We must be ready to initiate a movement as a party,” Oli stated during an oath taking ceremony for new Central Committee members at the party’s office in Chyasal on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Oli highlighted that political movements are essential for strengthening the party and maintaining momentum.
“We are at a crucial juncture. We need to be prepared for action,” he added.
Oli Criticizes the Government
Oli criticized the government for limiting democratic freedoms, claiming they are being overly restrictive. He also accused right wing political groups of misleading the public by claiming to support democracy and peace.
He voiced concerns about police actions, noting incidents of plain clothes officers conducting raids and entering people’s homes.
These statements reflect Oli’s views on the government and are not official findings.
UML Cadres Should Prepare for Movement After Festivals
Oli encouraged party leaders and members to mentally prepare for a potential political movement, whether it occurs now or after the Tihar and Chhath festivals.
“We cannot dismiss a movement in these circumstances, so we must be ready,” he stated.
“We have no choice but to embrace the spirit of movement.”
This indicates that UML leadership wants members to be prepared for possible street activism, though no specific date or details for the movement were provided.
Oli Urges UML to Prepare for Elections
Oli also called on the UML to gear up for the upcoming local and provincial elections. He urged party members to strengthen the organization and aim for electoral success, asserting that the country’s future cannot be shaped without UML involvement.
This suggests the party intends to focus on election preparations while also considering a political movement due to the current critical situation.
Political Tensions
Oli’s recent remarks come amid rising political tensions surrounding the government, democratic freedoms, and major political parties.
By urging UML members to prepare for a political movement while also focusing on elections, it appears the party chair is adopting a more assertive political stance. However, it remains uncertain when any actions will take place.
In the coming weeks, it may become clearer whether the UML plans to implement a formal protest strategy or continue prioritizing party organization.
