Durga Prasai Ordered Released on Rs 200,000 Bail by Kathmandu District Court

Durga Prasai Released on Bail in Case Filed Over Alleged Remarks

The Kathmandu District Court has approved the release of medical entrepreneur and activist Durga Prasai on a bail of Rs 200,000 in connection with a case involving electronic transactions.

A panel led by District Judge Umesh Prasad Luintel ordered Prasai’s release after he provided the necessary bail amount on Tuesday.

Prasai was detained by the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau following a complaint from Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Rachana Khatiwada. The police charged him under the Electronic Transactions Act for comments made about the lawmaker.

The case arose after Prasai made inappropriate remarks regarding Khatiwada. His arrest and detention were also part of ongoing legal discussions.

The recent court ruling allows Prasai to be released on bail of Rs 200,000 while the case continues through the legal system.

Prasai has encountered several arrests and legal challenges in recent years for alleged cyber crimes and other offenses. He has been released by court orders in the past as well.

The Kathmandu District Court’s latest ruling does not conclude the case; the legal proceedings regarding the allegations will move forward separately.
