Russian missile and drone attacks in Ukraine have resulted in at least 28 fatalities, including five children, marking one of the most lethal assaults in recent days, according to Ukrainian officials.
The most devastating incident occurred in Pryluky, located in the northern Chernihiv region, where a Russian missile struck a five-story residential building, killing 20 people, including five children.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that three of the deceased children were just one year old, and another was eight. Emergency crews are continuing their search through the rubble after the building was severely damaged.
At least seven children were among the injured, with a total of 55 people reported hurt in Pryluky.

Multiple Ukrainian Cities Affected
The attacks extended beyond Pryluky, impacting other locations such as Kyiv, Kremenchuk, and Oleksandriia.
Two individuals died in a strike on a high-rise building in Kremenchuk, while two more were killed in Oleksandriia, as reported by Ukrainian authorities. The strikes on Kyiv ignited fires in residential neighborhoods and caused additional casualties.
Ukraine’s Air Force indicated that Russia launched at least 50 missiles and 130 drones during the overnight assault, targeting several regions, including Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Poltava.
Severe Damage to Residential Areas
The attack on Pryluky resulted in extensive damage to the residential building, with rescue teams employing heavy machinery and manual tools to search for survivors and victims among the debris.
Residents recounted how they were asleep when the explosion occurred early in the morning, shattering windows and damaging nearby homes.
These attacks raise concerns about Ukraine’s capability to defend against ballistic missiles and increasingly difficult-to-intercept drones.

Zelensky Denounces Attacks
Zelensky condemned the assaults as attacks on civilians and emphasized that ballistic missiles pose a significant challenge to Ukraine’s air defense systems.
He has consistently urged Ukraine’s international allies to provide additional air defense equipment as Russia persists with missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
As Ukraine braces for another winter of conflict, concerns are rising about potential attacks on energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
The fighting continues to result in civilian casualties on both sides, as Russia and Ukraine conduct operations far beyond the front lines.
