Congress Leadership Election Delayed Again, Voting to Begin at 1 PM

Nepali Congress delegates waiting outside polling stations at Khulamanch after election postponed until 1 pm

The election for the new Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress has been postponed again, with voting now scheduled to start at 1 PM on Thursday.

Originally set for 7 AM, the election was first delayed to 10 AM due to rain and technical issues. The Election Committee then extended the voting time by another three hours, citing insufficient preparation.

Raju Katuwal, a member of the Election Committee, explained that the latest delay is due to incomplete preparations.

Voting Eligibility

A total of 7,255 delegates will be eligible to vote in this election, which will select the new leadership and Central Working Committee of the Nepali Congress during the party’s 15th General Convention. Voting will follow the organizational proceedings of the convention.

Polling Locations in Kathmandu

The Election Committee has established seven polling stations across three locations in Kathmandu.

Polling centers will be at Rastriya Sabha Griha, Khulamanch, and Pragya Bhawan. Delegates from Bagmati Province will vote at Rastriya Sabha Griha, while those from Gandaki and Lumbini provinces will use Pragya Bhawan. Delegates from Koshi, Madhes, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces will cast their votes at Khulamanch, which will also serve delegates from the party’s sister and affiliated organizations.

Identity Verification Required

Delegates must go to their assigned polling stations based on their province or representation category.

The Election Committee has stated that voters can only cast their ballots after their identities and names are confirmed against the official voter list.

These repeated delays have left thousands of delegates eagerly awaiting the start of the polling process at the newly set 1 PM deadline.
