The Nepali Congress General Convention has started its closed session as the party gears up to elect new leadership.
Delegates are reviewing and expected to approve four reports from the party president, vice president, general secretary, and treasurer. Endorsing these reports will finalize the convention’s organizational matters.
According to the election schedule, voting for the new leadership will begin at 7 am on October 8.
The 15th General Convention aims to elect 19 office-bearers, including the president, senior vice president, four vice-presidents, three general secretaries, 15 joint general secretaries, and a treasurer. Additionally, the party president will nominate four joint general secretaries and a treasurer, totaling 24 general secretaries and 16 joint general secretaries.
This closed session is viewed as the last step before delegates cast their votes for new leadership.
The convention has attracted thousands of delegates, discussing political and organizational issues before the final meeting. Earlier, delegates were organized into geographic groups to review the reports.
The leadership election will take center stage after the closed session, as the party prepares to vote for its new office-bearers.
Nepali Congress has opted for traditional paper ballots for the intra-party election instead of electronic voting, due to the large number of delegates and the time needed to count the votes.
With the closed session agenda completed, attention is now turning to the leadership race and the final vote on October 8 for the new Congress president.
