
The District Police Range in Kathmandu has arrested three men for allegedly threatening, verbally abusing, and physically attacking healthcare workers and security staff at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku.
This incident occurred in the hospital’s emergency ward during the early hours of October 1, prompting a swift response from local police.
Late-Night Emergency Ward Incident
- “At around 1:00 AM, police arrived at the emergency unit after reports of a disturbance and a physical fight. The suspects had entered the emergency room, and police quickly sent a backup team from the police circle,” said SP Dan Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range.
- The arrested individuals are Ram Kumar Budhathoki (41), Ayush Budhathoki (23), and Sachin Budhathoki (27), all from Kirtipur Municipality-4. Police dispatched an emergency unit from Kalimati Police Circle to secure the area and begin a preliminary investigation.
- “Initial inquiries revealed that all three suspects verbally harassed, threatened, and physically assaulted on-duty medical staff and security personnel. They were taken into custody on charges of indecent behavior,” police stated.
Judicial Remand and Legal Actions
The Kathmandu District Administration Office has granted a five-day police remand for the suspects, allowing police time to collect additional forensic and eyewitness evidence.
The police spokesperson emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, harassment, and intimidation against medical professionals and frontline healthcare workers within hospital facilities.
