A bus driver who suffered severe injuries in a fire incident in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, passed away today while receiving medical treatment. The police are actively investigating the details of the incident and working to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The driver was rushed to Kirtipur (Burn) Hospital on Monday afternoon around 1 PM after a bus owned by Riddhi Siddhi Yatayat caught fire near the Tripureshwor Chowk bus stop. Hospital sources reported that approximately 90% of the driver’s body was burned. According to police reports, he succumbed to his injuries that same night.

At the time of the fire, the bus (registered as Ba 5 Kha 4274) was reportedly unoccupied. Initial investigations indicated that a 25-year-old man named Dawa Lama from Kavre was severely injured in the incident, as his driving license and personal belongings were discovered among the victims’ items. However, a man claiming to be Dawa Lama contacted the police, stating he was unharmed and not involved in the accident.

In light of this development, law enforcement has summoned the individual identifying himself as Dawa Lama to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Baggikhana, for questioning. Investigators are also looking into the possibility of misuse of the driving license and are focused on confirming the identity of the deceased.

There are suspicions surrounding a confrontation between the bus driver and traffic police, with preliminary findings suggesting that the driver may have been responsible for igniting the vehicle. However, further investigations into the events leading up to the fire are ongoing.
