Kathmandu will undergo scheduled power outages for eight days as the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) expands its underground electrical network.

The NEA has announced outages from Kartik 13 to Kartik 20, affecting areas around the Kuleshwor and Baneshwor distribution centers.

Outages will take place between 10:30 AM and 4 PM to facilitate underground cabling work.

Power Outage Locations

Planned outages will occur in the following areas:

  • Kartik 13: Balambu, Thankot, and High Vision Colony (Matatirtha feeder)
  • Kartik 14: Kalanki Ring Road to Syuchatar Substation (Sitapaila feeder)
  • Kartik 15: Kalanki Chowk to Dhungedhara (Kalanki, Thankot, and Ropeway feeders)
  • Kartik 16: Kalanki Ring Road to Syuchatar Substation (Bafal feeder)
  • Kartik 17: UN Park to Bijulibazaar (Shankhamul feeder)
  • Kartik 18: Dhaulagiri Housing and Matatirtha PSS (Satungal feeder)
  • Kartik 19: Hajma Bridge Area (Syuchatar SS feeder)
  • Kartik 20: Dhaulagiri Housing and Matatirtha PSS (Satungal feeder)

Scheduled Outages

Residents and businesses in these areas should prepare for disruptions between 10:30 AM and 4 PM. Those relying on electrical appliances or constant power should make alternative arrangements.

Note that the schedule may change if weather conditions are poor.

Why is the NEA Expanding Underground Cables?

This project aims to modernize Kathmandu Valley’s electricity distribution by installing underground cables to replace overhead ones. This will enhance public safety, minimize weather- elated damage, and streamline electricity distribution, while also improving the city’s appearance.

Residents Should Check the Schedule

With planned outages lasting eight days, residents are encouraged to check the schedule and plan accordingly. These necessary disruptions are part of the NEA’s efforts to create a safer and more reliable electrical network for Kathmandu Valley.
