A violent altercation fueled by alcohol has resulted in the death of a man in Dhampus, Kaski district. Five individuals have been arrested and are under investigation for suspected murder.
Local residents are in shock following the death of Rajendra Paudel, a tourist porter from Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality-7.
Initial police reports indicate that the incident began with a minor argument among several young men who were drinking. The situation escalated, leading them to visit the victim’s home late at night and attack him.
The police have taken five suspects into custody and are continuing their investigation.
How It All Started
The conflict started when Paudel was upset about his missing mobile phone. He asked his brother in law, Bishnu Prasad Gautam, for it, but Gautam refused. In frustration, Paudel broke the phone.
Afterward, Paudel approached four locals Lil Bahadur Pun, Ashish Gurung, Mahadev BK, and Milan BK who were drinking. An argument broke out when Paudel kicked over Pun’s beehive, according to Kaski police.
Paudel returned home but then came back with a sickle. During the confrontation, Milan BK suffered a neck injury, while Ashish Gurung was hurt in his leg.
They eventually separated and returned home, but tensions remained high.
Alleged Revenge Attack
Later that night, the argument intensified. According to initial findings, Ashish Gurung contacted Bikram Pun and Lil Bahadur Pun around midnight, and the five men proceeded to Paudel’s house.
Investigators believe they attacked Paudel while he was asleep, using bamboo sticks, punches, and kicks, leaving him severely injured. They then dragged him about 50 meters to a terraced field.
Paudel asked his mother for a quilt and lay down in the field, failing to wake up the next morning.
Locals discovered his body nearby and alerted the police. The exact cause of death will be established through the investigation.
