Himlung Avalanche: Three More Bodies Recovered, Death Toll Reaches Seven

Three more bodies have been found at the site of an avalanche on Himlung Himal in Manang, raising the total number of recovered bodies from the incident to seven.

On Wednesday, the additional bodies were located in Narpa Bhumi Rural Municipality-5 in Manang, an area where several individuals had gone missing due to the avalanche.

Manang Chief District Officer Mukti Prasad Khanal confirmed the identities of the victims: Aash Gurung from Kerauja in Dharche Rural Municipality-2, Gorkha; Suraj Rai from Aiselukharka Rural Municipality-3, Khotang; and Kalam Budha from Hukam, Rukum.

All three individuals were linked to Himalayan Holidays, according to the local administration. As of Wednesday, seven bodies have been recovered from the avalanche site, while nine people are still unaccounted for.

Among the missing, seven are associated with Himalayan Holidays, and two are connected to Imagine Nepal.

Seven bodies so far recovered

The recovery efforts have been active since the avalanche impacted the Himlung area.

On Sunday, the bodies of Chhebi Bhote and Pasang Bhote were retrieved, followed by Birendra Gurung and Ghanshyam Rai on Monday.

With the three additional bodies found on Wednesday, the total number of retrieved remains now stands at seven.

Authorities continue their efforts to locate the remaining missing individuals and recover any bodies from the area affected by the avalanche.

Ongoing search and rescue efforts

Teams are actively searching the Himlung region to find the nine individuals who are still missing.

According to the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, a rescue team, including IFMGA mountain guides Pasang Kaji Sherpa and Bikram Karki, is currently working at the Himlung site.

Rescuers are facing challenging mountainous conditions as they search the area impacted by the avalanche.

This latest recovery adds to the earlier efforts that resulted in the recovery of four bodies over the weekend.
