Baitadi Court Directs Action Against Former Land Revenue Officials

Baitadi Land Office Ordered to Address Errors in Chand Family Property Records

The District Court of Baitadi has mandated legal action against former officials of the district’s land revenue office.

This follows errors in the land records of former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand, which delayed the division of his family’s ancestral property for two years.

  • The property in question is a 30-ropani parcel located in the former Gokuleshwar Village Development Committee-1. Chand had assigned his relative,
  • Dev Bahadur Chand, to manage the transfer and partition among his four sons. However, discrepancies were discovered when Dev Bahadur visited the land revenue office.
  • He reported that the land was incorrectly marked as restricted, despite the family having no outstanding loans.
  • Additionally, the recorded area was reduced from 30 ropanis to 20, and the property’s address changed from Ward No. 1 to Ward No. 3.
  • The Agricultural Development Bank verified that Chand had no loans.

The family spent two years attempting to resolve these issues through the land revenue office and the district administration. After unsuccessful attempts, they took the matter to court.

Baitadi Court Orders Legal Action Against Former Officials

On Ashoj 14, the District Court of Baitadi instructed authorities to take legal action against the former chief of the land revenue office and the staff member responsible for the file.

The court also directed a warning to the current office chief and relevant staff.

This order was communicated to the Department of Land Management and Archive, the relevant ministry, the District Administration Office of Baitadi, and the current Land Reform and Revenue Office.

Court Decision Facilitates Property Partition

The court’s ruling has reinstated the process to divide the property among Chand’s four sons. Bhupendra Chand and Binod Bahadur Chand have traveled to Baitadi to complete the necessary legal formalities, while Jayant Bahadur Chand and Arun Chand have designated representatives to act on their behalf.
