
Police arrested three Chinese nationals involved in an alleged illegal gold-trading operation at a rented house in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu.
The property, owned by a Nepali named Bista who resides in the United States, was rented out for Rs 330,000 per month since last Shrawan, with four months’ rent paid in advance.
Authorities conducted a raid on Thursday after receiving tips about illegal gold trading. They seized approximately 21 kilograms of gold and equipment used for melting and processing.
Rented Property Used for Gold Processing
Initial reports indicated that the rented house was used for processing gold and preparing it for sale.
Police discovered that the group possessed tools to melt gold, assess its quality, and shape it into various forms. Investigators are probing how the gold arrived at the location and its intended distribution channels.
One member of the group had previously traveled to Kathmandu to understand the local market before returning to China, while two others arrived later. Their travel, including multiple airport visits, is under investigation.
