A few days after the violent clashes on September 8 and 9, the ruling party CPN-UML has called for a thorough investigation into the violence.
CPN-UML Calls September 8-9 Violence a ‘Serious Attack’ on Democracy:
“CPN-UML strongly condemns the recent violence that damaged many state institutions. We see this as a serious attack on our democracy, economy, and the foundation of our Constitution,” said a statement from CPN-UML.
“The party demands a detailed inquiry to identify who planned these actions and burned down important state institutions. The ruling government should stop trying to end all prosecution processes, which would allow political immunity.”
“The tragedy of September 9 was not just an emotional response to the earlier deaths of young people. It was a sign of a harmful plot aimed at reversing our progress in nationalism, democracy, and the Constitution,” according to the CPN-UML statement.
CPN-UML Statement on Difference Between GenZ Intentions and Foreign Influence:
“We understand that the initial reasons for the protests came from the younger generation pushing for freedom of speech and basic rights,” the CPN-UML statement explained. “However, what happened later shows clear involvement from criminals and foreign political powers. These harmful people used the lives of innocent GenZ youths as shields to attack important state institutions like the Federal Parliament, President’s office, Singha Durbar, and Supreme Court.”
“When our internal security agencies should be ensuring justice and peace, they have kept their reports confidential and have stalled prosecution cases related to the vandalism from September 8-9. They also tried to charge former government officials based on politically motivated claims.”
