Police have arrested a 26-year-old named Deep Bahadur Tamang, accused of defrauding job-seekers by promising them jobs in Japan.
Tamang, who lives in Lalitpur but is originally from Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-1, Ramechhap, was apprehended by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office. He faced complaints for collecting money from individuals in exchange for job opportunities in Japan.
Allegedly, Tamang collected Rs 1.01 crore from 15 victims through his company, Neem Education Consultancy, assuring them of employment in Japan. After receiving the money, he reportedly became unreachable.
The investigation began after victims filed complaints, claiming they had paid for jobs that never materialized.
In addition to the foreign employment fraud, Tamang is linked to six banking offense cases totaling Rs 34.65 lakh. When combined, the amounts involved in both fraud and banking cases reach approximately Rs 1.35 crore.
Tamang has been referred to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities are actively investigating the allegations and related transactions.
Police recommend that individuals seeking overseas employment thoroughly verify recruitment agencies, job offers, and the legal status of foreign-employment intermediaries before making any payments.
