The Nepalese government has indefinitely suspended the National Private and Boarding Schools’ Association Nepal (NPABSON), which represents private and boarding schools, due to ongoing non compliance.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this suspension under the National Direction Act, 2018, citing repeated failures to adhere to instructions specified in Section 5 of the law.

In an official statement, the Ministry highlighted that NPABSON’s leaders were engaging in activities that did not align with government approved laws and the organization’s fundamental goals.

Authorities took this action after attempting to resolve the issue through dialogue.

The Ministry indicated that discussions were held with relevant stakeholders on Ashoj 23, 2083, urging NPABSON to comply with the National Direction Act.

On Mangsir 12, 2082, the government had also instructed NPABSON to conduct its activities legally.

However, NPABSON continued to ignore these directives despite several reminders.

Citing Section 6(2) of the National Direction Act, 2018, the Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended NPABSON until further notice from the government.

A notice has been issued to inform all concerned parties.

Implications for Private Schools

This decision has brought the relationship between the government and private/residential school organizations in Nepal into focus.

As an umbrella organization, NPABSON has played a role in discussions about education policies, school management, and private education issues.

The suspension raises concerns about the organization’s ability to function as it has been.

This situation occurs amid ongoing debates regarding the regulation of private schools and government oversight of education policies in Nepal.

Future developments will depend on the government’s next steps.
