Six Killed After Passenger Bus Crashes at Daunne in Nawalparasi

A tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning when a passenger bus traveling from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu crashed in Daunne, resulting in six fatalities and ten injuries.

The incident took place around 4 am on the East-West Highway in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2, Daunne, as reported by police.

The bus, registered as Province 3-01-006 Kha 1553, was heading towards Kathmandu when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn and fall into a roadside drain on a downhill stretch.

Authorities confirmed that there were 18 people on board, including the driver, with two passengers escaping without injuries.

Identification of the Deceased

Police have identified five of the six victims from the crash. They are:

  • Nirjung Khatri, 50, from Bheri Ganga Municipality-3, Jajarkot
  • Dipendra KC, 32, from Kohalpur Municipality-3, Banke
  • Narendra Raj Giri, 65, from Swamikartik Rural Municipality, Bajura
  • Ekendra Raj Regmi, 55, from Kohalpur Municipality-10, Banke
  • Krish Kanaujiya, 22, from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-7

The identity of the sixth victim remains unknown, but is believed to be a man aged between 40 and 42.

Injuries Reported

Ten passengers sustained injuries in the Nawalparasi accident and were transported to Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital in Danda and Bharatpur Hospital for medical care.

The injured individuals include Hari Sharan Thapa, Tejendra Prasad Bhandari, Aakriti Tharu, Pawan Budha, Sanjay Tharu, Prem Bam, Anoj Khatri, Lal Bahadur Karki, Aslam Bhagwan, and Anil Budhathoki. Notably, Aslam Bhagwan suffered serious head injuries and has been referred to New Medical College in Chitwan for further treatment.

Local authorities and police responded promptly to the crash site to carry out rescue operations.

This incident adds to the growing number of accidents along the Daunne section of the East-West Highway, known for its steep and winding roads that pose significant travel challenges. An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
